A Rose By Any Other Name

Beginning at De Anza Cove (a beautiful park in its own right), the Rose Creek Bike Trail is a quaint scenic path that fronts the Rose Inlet and connects Mission Bay to La Jolla. The ride is easy and car-free and offers a peaceful ride with beautiful views of the city, the parks, and Mission Bay. The Creek Trail ends after a short but scenic 1.1 miles, but you can continue north and pick up the Rose Canyon Trail to extend your trip. This paved trail network winds its way up a canyon for an additional 6 or 7 miles past creeks and pockets of trees and is perfect for beginners and intermediate cyclists. Street tires are usually good enough, unless it has been exceptionally wet.

Best La Jolla Bike Trails for Beginners

Another easy, short, and breathtaking bike ride is the Fay Avenue and La Jolla Bike Path. At only 1.2 miles it won’t be your cardio workout for the day, but the incredible views of the La Jolla hills and the Pacific Ocean beyond are sure to get your blood pumping. Mostly paved but with a few graded dirt sections, this easy trail winds behind residential areas and through community parks along an old railway line. If you time it right, the southern end of the path puts you near La Jolla Hermosa Park, perched above the ocean. It is an excellent spot for a picnic and brilliant sunset views and one of the best La Jolla bike trails!

Your Mission, Should You Choose To Accept It

To make a day of it with your bike, check out the 12-mile Mission Bay Bike Path loop trail.
