Thanksgiving can be a fantastic time to escape to the beach! If you’re looking for a serene and gorgeous Thanksgiving with family and friends, come stay with us in La Jolla for an extra special holiday that you’re sure to remember for years to come. When you experience a La Jolla Thanksgiving, you’ll enjoy moderate temperatures that were made for exploring the beach in shorts and a light jacket, and nights that are chilly enough that you can cuddle around the fireplace and get in the holiday spirit—just leave the heavy winter coat at home, because you won’t need it when you spend Thanksgiving oceanside!

Vacation Rentals Perfect for Cooking and Plentiful Local Dining

When you plan a Thanksgiving getaway with us, rest assured that our vacation homes come with fully-equipped kitchens where you can make your personalized holiday meal—but for ultimate relaxation and a stress-free Thanksgiving, you can dine out for dinner or pick up a meal to enjoy al fresco on the comfort of your own patio. Our beautiful oceanside town offers an impressive selection of local dining on Thanksgiving Day, from prix-fixe holiday specials to buffets with seasonal flair.

For a taste of luxury, reserve a table for a traditional turkey dinner at A. R. Valentien, a restaurant at the upscale The Lodge at Torrey Pines hotel. For high-class dining oceanside, try The Marine Room—and for those who don’t like turkey, their menu offers plenty of other options! For the Thanksgiving buffet of your dreams, stop by The Shores Restaurant, and if you’re dining with kids, Duke’s La Jolla is a family-friendly restaurant with breath-taking views.

If you want to take-out and dine at your rental, a number of local markets offer pre-made Thanksgiving meals, among them Girard Gourmet, Elijah’s, and Jonathan’s Market, just to name a few!

Oceanside Holiday Activities During a La Jolla Thanksgiving

There’s plenty of things to do during your La Jolla Thanksgiving week! The five-day San Diego Jazz Fest takes place starting the day before Thanksgiving and can be a sublime way to relax on the holiday or days following. Starting on Thanksgiving Day, you can ice-skate with ocean views at the Hotel Del Coronado, just a half an hour south of La Jolla—but the drive is so scenic it’ll pass in no time! There’s nothing like a Thanksgiving walk on the beach, and with low-tides, November is an ideal month for exploring La Jolla’s rocky shores and many tide pools. And with countless boutique shops and well-known stores, La Jolla offers excellent shopping for Black Friday deals.

3 Ways to Keep the Family Entertained Over a La Jolla Thanksgiving

If you are planning a trip for a La Jolla Thanksgiving, there are several events going on around the city for you and your family. While a day at the beach is always an option, here are some activities you can check out.

Mother Goose Parade

The Mother Goose Parade is San Diego county’s kick-off celebration for Thanksgiving. The parade is the largest of its kind east of the Mississippi and each year it attracts thousands of guests. The parade includes floats, marching bands, horses, giant balloons, celebrities, entertainers, Santa Clause, and much more. The parade is held in downtown El Cajon, which is just a 25-minute drive east of La Jolla. This year’s parade will be held on November 18 at 1 p.m.

San Diego Thanksgiving Dixieland Jazz Festival

The Thanksgiving Dixieland Jazz Festival is held every year over the weekend of Thanksgiving. The festival is known as the crown gem of jazz festivals and features bands playing everything from traditional jazz to swing, Dixieland, ragtime, and rockabilly. This year’s festival will be held at the Town & Country Resort and Convention Center on November 21 – 25. You can purchase tickets for a single day or for the whole weekend.

Where to Eat Dinner

If you are looking for a place to eat on Thanksgiving, there are several restaurants in the city that will be serving a special holiday dinner.

The Marine Room is one of the best choices for a high-class La Jolla Thanksgiving dinner. The restaurant has breathtaking views of the ocean and is one of the best restaurants in La Jolla. They serve a special menu on Thanksgiving that includes turkey, center-cut Angus steak, and Red Walnut salmon. The restaurant will be open from 12 p.m. – 7 p.m. on Thanksgiving but it does get busy, so it is recommended to make a reservation ahead of time.

Duke’s La Jolla will also be serving a special Thanksgiving Dinner. This dinner will be more of a traditional Thanksgiving meal. However, the outdoor seating on the patio offers amazing views of the ocean and Duke’s is offering one of the most affordable Thanksgiving dinners in the city.
