Haunted Aquarium: Sea Monster Mash

On October 26 – 27 from 6 – 9 p.m. the Scripps Aquarium shows off some of its spookiest undersea creatures. Scientists will help you search the tanks for these unusual underwater creatures. There will also be opportunities to play with slime, live music, witch-crafts, trick-or-treating, and spooky stories. Costumes are encouraged, and this event is family-friendly and good for all ages. Pre-purchase tickets cost $19.50 and tickets at the door cost $22.

Balboa Park and Other Attractions for This Halloween in La Jolla

During the month of October Balboa Park turns into a twisted grove of pines and gnarled oak trees with scary movie icons like Pennywise, Freddy, and Michael Myers hiding along the trail. The maze is over 3,500 square feet of terror and includes favorites like The Stranger Things upside-down house and a possessed farmhouse. The haunted maze is open every Wednesday – Sunday in October from 6:30 – 11 p.m. and is open every day on the last week of October.

The Scream Zone

The Scream Zone is considered to be one of the goriest, scariest, and largest fright fests in Southern California. The Scream Zone runs on 24 select nights during the month of October and includes the House of Horror, the KarnEvil, and the Haunted Hayride. The event is held at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. Admission into the fairgrounds is free if you do not want to go into the haunted houses, and there are food vendors and a bar set up in the fairgrounds. The Scream Zone is open Friday and Saturdays from 7 p.m. to midnight and 7 p.m. – 11 p.m. during the weekday. Tickets to the haunted houses start at $21.
